Forward Friday.. Quitting Is Not An Option.. Skates.. Progress.. New Year 2023

"They give up in the first 2 weeks; if only they could see that there were possibilities over the hump of the pain", said my trainer the other day about why people drop their New year's resolution to get healthier so quickly.

Forward Friday is an encouragement to not give up no matter what we have purposed to do, accomplish, overcome. Sometimes, it's not easy when the "Mountain" appears to be almost insurmountable. It's not but a little push, in the right direction that can be a great motivator. And as always, there is good news medicine at the end.

Let's Get Into This!

So about those skates..... in last week's New Year's post, I was talking about m y new skates and how I was breaking them in so I could begin using them for the season.

Well, last week in the first real action, I thought my feet were going to fall off. There was intense pain and no amount of in game adjustments were working.

It was frustrating and now there is a dilemma; I need to work in these skates but something is clearly not working.

So.... It's back to the drawing board so to speak. I've ordered some inserts; tried one set out and they didn't work but I have another one to try. It is not a question of if but when and so many times, we tend to give up when all we think of is "if" when we should be thinking "when".

We were training the other day and my trainer said that the longest 15 minutes in a work out is actually the drive to get to the gym.

Because once we start, the body starts to kick in after 15 minutes to say, this is good and off we go.

Trouble is, so many times in so many areas of life, we quit.

We quit eating healthier...

We quit the gym at home or at the center..

We quit working on changing attitudes and behaviors because, well, we are used to what we've been doing.

We quit on us... thinking somehow that we can't do it, will never do it...

We quit believing in us and think somehow we are unworthy of great change....

Maybe it's because somebody said something, did something, that event happened, we've tried before and things didn't work out the way we planned so......

But if we could see that sometimes if not all the time, just over the ridge of the hill/mountain we are walking up, there is change waiting.....what could it look like?

So, some reasons why we shouldn't quit when we just got started!

We Haven't Achieved Our Goal Yet.

Thomas Edison said, “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.”

We Have Come A Long Way....For Some Of Us, An Inch Is A Long Way.

We have a better probability of achieving success compared to when we didn’t even start. Every day as we are moving forward, the probability of success is increasing, never knowing how closer to the success we are when we give up.

Maybe we are just a few inches away from victory; maybe just taking a few steps, we would find the treasure.

Self Doubt Is Not Uncommon

Dale Carnegie said, “Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all.”

Success In Any Path Demands Perseverance

Many of us are enthusiastic at the beginning of the journey; we work hard, remain devoted and disciplined.

But when things get complicated, we find it hard to continue and start thinking about giving up.

We can’t give up just because life has become difficult, as so many things in this world are worth the effort and fight to see whatever those things are come to pass.

Uncertainty Is Where Extraordinary Happens

We may give up because things are uncertain- we don’t know what will happen tomorrow, where we are heading and whether our hard work will pay off.

If we are addicted to certainty and safety, our lives become very limited, and we live a mediocre life.

Great opportunities, if not at all the time required risk and embraced uncertainty. Because We can grow, experience new things, and create something ground-breaking.

Nelson Mandela “It always seems impossible until it’s done.”

Failure Is Not Final

Failure makes us stronger, make us wiser, and prepares us for success.

But many give up because they fear they will fail as if a failure will haunt them, even kill them.

We can’t give up even if we have a deep fear of failure, giving up is not an option.

Giving up is far worse than failure.

Struggle Is Inevitable

Mandy Hale “Never stop trying. Never stop believing. Never give up. Our day will come.”

No Regrets

What if we give up today and later realize that we were just a few inches away from success? We will most probably live with regrets.

Thomas Edison, “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”

It Is Always The Most Darkest Before The Dawn

“Never give up. Today could be hard, tomorrow could be tougher, but the day after tomorrow will be sunshine.”

Effort Will Pay Off

The only way our efforts will be wasted is if we give up.

Winston Churchill, “Never, never, never give up.”

So Here's Some Good Medicine

When we feel overwhelmed and overtaken by the enemy, remember that God hears us, He can keep us, and He strengthens us.

And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap/gain/secure/win if we faint not. Galatians 6:9

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30

Believe it or not, there are three groups of people we are influencing every day. Those younger than us, those who are our peers, and those older than us. Each is either being inspired by our life or to some degree, losing heart.

Wouldn’t it be incredible if our choice to “never give up” created a legacy that impacted others for generations?

Sometimes, it's discouragement. We may begin an endeavor excited with passion to see it through, but after a while, when we don’t receive the results we expected or when people don’t appreciate our efforts, we can become discouraged.

Sometimes, people give up because of pride.

When we crash, our pride is wounded, and we often give up altogether, rather than get up and try again

Sometimes, Exhaustion can also lead to giving up. If we don’t pace ourselves and set healthy boundaries, we may become so mentally, physically, spiritually, or emotionally exhausted that we simply quit...

But..........

1 Corinthians 9:24. Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? ...

2 Chronicles 15:7. 7 But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.” ...

So we can do whatever it is we have decided to do but quitting isn't an option. Who is that person we can encourage this week to not just hold the line to not quit on themselves but to take a step in a positive manner.....

Because Progress Matters.....

The Things I Think.....

So years ago, when I was hovering or rather slow walking around at 275lbs, I knew something had to be done but what???

I had an epiphany in June 2003 in Tampa, Florida but it was January 2004 that I really knew it was time for change.

I had asked a few friends who were struggling if they would join me on a journey to health and all were eager.... at the beginning....

Only 1 tried to stick it out for change (that friend figured things out later) but stopped after a couple of months.

I was looking in the mirror one night, thinking of how was I going to do this alone.... It was in that moment that I could hear this whisper in my ear that I wouldn't be doing this alone. That night I knew God had my back and that became the moment I decided that I wouldn't turn back.

60 plus pounds off and years later, the same whisper holds true; we don't have to walk the road of change alone. even if it feels like there is no one seemingly walking with us...

Because if we choose, God is always willing to help us..

So....... quitting isn't an option.... 2023 is the year of progress for all of us! And Why Not?

Eternal light is never altered by temporary moments of darkness no matter how bad they may seem to be to us.

Walking the Progress road... will you join me? I know we can see change this year!!

Dave
