Forward Friday.. Tribes & Prides.. Sit With The Lions.... It's Different There..

Watching the lions arc majestically in the air to catch 20 lbs. of meat always captivated me. The fact that my dad knew the times so that every time we would go to the Granby Zoo south of Montreal, we'd see this incredible display of power and mobility was not lost on me.

Forward Friday looks at more than just the Lions feeding times; they have something to say to us about how their Pride works and how they go about life. There are practical and valuable lessons to be learned by watching and observing how the Kings of the jungle go about doing life and as always, there's good news at the end.

So, Let's Get Into This!

I remember watching a documentary where wildlife photographers were outside of the range rover taking pictures of this King Lion. The driver sensed that they had infringed on his territory for far too long and told them to get back in the truck.

No sooner than he had said that, the Lion took off straight for them. They barely closed the door when the lion's head tried to get in through the window. The only reason why one of them wasn't lunch was because the Lion's head was too big to fit through the window.

Fascinating and spectacular.

But the Lions are so much more than that.

I was listening to a podcast recently and the speaker was mentioning some of the qualities of the pride and how they interact in the wild.

Here Are But A Few:

Lions know who they are and they hang around with the like minded and do not waste their time being in places and situations that they don't need to be in.

While Lions are among the strongest animals in the world, and no one dares to confront or challenge them unless mortally wounded, they are mentioned as Kings because they seem to have this aura about them in most everything they do.

A lion lives fearlessly and is not afraid to take bold moves.

Lions don't get lost in wasted moments with the crazies; you know those hyenas and the monkeys. They know who they are and who they aren`t so there isn`t wasted time getting involved in areas that don't concern them.

A lion's life is not devoid or empty of obstacles and problems. In fact, because they lead an extraordinary life, there is less space for errors, as one mistake could cost them their life, reign, or offspring. They hunt and it is not an easy task because of the vast territory they live in so when they miss on getting their prey, they don't always get a second chance with that prey.

But, has there ever been seen a depressed lion or one who wants to give up?
They will always struggle to hunt and rule lands, but they never quit. Sometimes they fail in hunting a zebra, a gazelle, and a wildebeest but give up? No, they get ready for the next adventure.

Some Good Medicine Moments:

Finding Our Life's Purpose

We were born for a purpose and we must be about finding what that is. As lions are born to hunt and rule; we must acknowledge that we were not hatched but uniquely designed to accomplish great things.

Finding our purpose will keep us going through good and bad times.

Fail And Grow

Lions fail often in the hunt, but this makes them fine-tune their skills; they learn to adjust so they maximize their efforts so they miss less often and win more..

So, we should also embrace our failures and grow from each time we face them.

I remember a former mentor saying that it's a must that we must analyze our failures and make sure to not repeat them.

Ever learning to grow from each experience will help us move forward; if the Lions can Evolve and Survive’ to achieve success in their habitat, then we can learn to be more than we were.

“Everyone wants to eat, but few are willing to hunt.”

Focus On What Really Matters

When lions go on a hunt, they make less noise and focus on the prey. They always have an element of surprise and keep everything low to make their raid successful.

Now imagine, if a lion makes noise, you know they aren't going to catch much.

So, it's vitally important to find out the things that are going to help us become what we were destined to become and narrow cast our vision and focus so that we can achieve what that calling is.

Find The Ones You Can Trust

A pride of lions always back each other in good and bad times.

Our Tribe/Pride needs to be built for any type of ride; whether good times or some rough waters, we can count on our tribe.

There is strength in the pack and sometimes, we don't need a thousand but we need a few.

We need trust in our Tribe/Pride that can support us through thick and thin, supporting each other in overcoming tough problems and situations, cheerleaders and supporters who have our best in mind and it is reciprocal.

Values And Courage

Even though this thought comes from the Fabulous "Lion King" movie, there is truth in valuing "Harmony" in the Tribe/Pride. Too many people become stagnant when their tribe has contentious, moving in every direction because there is little or no unity, infighting, bickering moments and activity but little or no togetherness.

This has nothing to do with just being "yes" people because that isn't healthy but that's for another day.

And........Courage Not to doubt ourselves.

"You doubt your value, don't run from who you are."

This quote from Aslan says to me that's it remains important today that who we surround ourselves are those who make a difference in helping our individual courage grow.

The Bible Says Some Encouraging Things About Relationships

A friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need.

An open rebuke is better than hidden love! Wounds from a sincere friend are better than many kisses from an enemy.

As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.

Don’t befriend angry people or associate with hot-tempered people, or you will learn to be like them and endanger your soul.

Here’s the lesson: Use your worldly resources to benefit others and make friends. Then, when your possessions are gone, they will welcome you to an eternal home.

So I'm passing on the hyenas and the monkeys; as cute as the monkeys can be, I'm going with the Lions.... It's better there!!!

Tribes and Prides.....
