It's Lent: Some Ways Gratitude Can Help With The "Weighty Issues"

Being grateful every day can surprisingly or not can help us accomplish the goal of losing weight! It's not even a trick! Gratitude can help us become more aware of our physical and mental health and help us improve our general health at the same time!

Back in 2004, I had no idea how to start the change but I knew something had to be done. So, the first thing I did was hook in to a group of friends who were in the same boat and try and figure out how to support each other through change.

I then looked at different ideas on losing weight and changing my patterns, then put my own spin on change. It served me well for 7 years until I hit the ceiling so to speak.

The next step was getting some expert help in getting to the next level of change. It really made a difference in the next step.

I written down a few ideas about gratitude that can help us on the way to dealing with the weighty issues.

Reducing our stress levels can help us reduce our stress eating – Taking the time to express gratitude on a daily basis, we can help our body to reduce the stress levels in no time! And if that's true, less stress eating! More common than we might want to admit, healthy eating goes out the window and eating sweet, processed food overwhelms us in the middle of a stressful event!

Make better decisions about the food – With gratitude becoming a part of our daily routine, we can start making adjustments in our life especially the decisions that we make, especially about our eating habits.

Appreciating the food we have – In our North American lifestyle, it's not often that we take the time to appreciate the food on our table. Our fast food mentality has us eating quickly, rarely savoring the food we eat and it doesn't compare to taking the time to enjoy what we eat, when we eat it. As well, when we take the time to appreciate our food, it will let our body process food normally.

We can set Goals – I found as I started recognizing the power of being grateful, there was a greater appreciation for my self, and it wasn't just my body, but my mind as well! As i became more comfortable with my character, I found that i wanted to set realistic goals for change! Practicing and being grateful on a daily basis definitively helped on the way to accomplishing the goals I was setting!

Gratitude can help us put together a solid exercise regimen – Exercising is essential in the process of losing weight, and I used healthy tips and tricks, to help me in the journey. (It's frustrating being injured so I can't do a lot but at least I can control my eating). The action plans definitely kept me on course to putting into play what I needed to do to take better care of myself because as I realized, I am worth the effort.

Gratitude can help us stick to planning and eating healthier – It took time to appreciate what I was making when I made it, enjoying it while eating etc. Being for grateful for the opportunity to change and get better created strength and resolve to move forward in sticking to the plan(s) to become healthier and it really does make a difference to be grateful.

Making a decision to lose weight is a tough process that takes time and patience. But we can never give up even when we feel like it. Even if we "Fall" off for a bit, we can always re-dedicate ourselves to the process. I would throw in new tips and tricks that to help me whenever I needed it. One mighty tip that does not require money or a lot of time – practicing gratitude every day! It Really matters!!!!

Don't give up!!

It's been said, “Every once in a while God allows you to stub your toe as a kind reminder to be grateful for the miraculous body attached to it.”

“Gratitude turns disappointment into lessons learned, discoveries made, alternatives explored, and new plans set in motion."

“Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.”
