Motivational Monday Late Edition.. The Season Of The Advent....

Leading up to Christmas week, our upcoming posts will be about in our own simple ways, bringing some healthy change, warmth, kindness, hope because Lord knows, we all can use some.

So today, there were some surprises that came our way. I work in 11 schools and had planned to be in one location for the day but of course, anything and everything changed and had me go to 3 other schools.

At the first one, my good buddy Jake said that he wanted me to go to his office because he had something for me. in my head, I figured that he was going to show me something from some of the issues we dealt with from the week before. By the way, Jake is an amazing teacher and person. Not as funny as I am but anyway....

Instead, he was cross border shopping on the weekend and bought me a New England Patriots sun chair! It was so unexpected but so appreciated and for me, the idea that he thought of me even if he can't stand the team to put a smile on my face is one of the pillars of showing kindness and bringing that healthy change we believe the Advent represents.

Then later in the morning at another school, a colleague pulled me aside to apologize for an incident from the previous week.

Again, I was not expecting it but it warmed my heart and still dealing with mom's passing, it was a moment I'll not soon forget.

Here are a few thoughts to encourage you as you start your week!

Advent: the time to listen for footsteps. You can’t hear footsteps when you’re running yourself.

First and foremost, we need to be the type of people we'd encourage others to be. We should watch our own gossiping and anger. We should model the kindness we want to see.

Kindness makes a person feel good whether it's being done to or by that person.

The word advent conjures up "expectation." What advent can do for us is create a sense of hope.

In our own way, we can be notable in how we bring something fresh, something needed, something warm, something kind, something of value and worth because we are a world in desperate need of the Characteristics and Person of the Advent!!!

Let kindness rule!!!

Dave
